Would you like to participate in a research study for people who have nerve pain after surgery?

We're inviting you to take part in a study for adults who suffer from post-surgical nerve pain to evaluate the effect of an investigational patch on treating the symptoms associated with nerve pain after surgery. All study-related visits, tests, care, and study drug will be provided at no cost. In addition, compensation for study-related travel may be provided. Health insurance is not required to participate.

The study will be evaluating the efficacy of an investigational patch for post-surgical nerve pain.

Participants may be eligible to take part in the PSNP Studies if you:

  • Are over 18 years old.
  • Have had a surgery in the past 5 years.
  • Experience a burning, freezing, or shocking pain (sometimes accompanied by numbness and/or pins and needles) in the area where you had surgery.
ALL STUDY-RELATED CARE WILL BE PROVIDED BY A TEAM OF EXPERIENCED DOCTORS AND NURSES

About Post-Surgical Nerve Pain

Post-surgical nerve pain, also known as postoperative nerve pain or post-surgical neuropathic pain, is a chronic condition caused by nerve damage during surgery that may last for years after surgery.

Healthy nerves communicate pain signals to the brain when the body is experiencing injury and stay silent when there is no injury. With post-surgical nerve pain, damaged nerves send abnormal pain signals to the brain.

Affects around 30% of patients for some surgeries.

It can make sleep and returning to work difficult.

It is often unrecognized due to confusion with other pain from surgery.

Chronic post-surgical nerve pain is a problem worldwide. It is often overlooked or minimized, poorly treated,1 causes disability, and is associated with reduced quality of life and increased use of health care resources.2

Chronic post-surgical nerve pain has become a health priority and has been included in the upcoming version of the International Classification of Disease, ICD-111.

Post-surgical nerve pain usually presents in a defined localized area of the body, with an area of pain usually related to the primary lesion (the area where the surgery was performed). It is a type of neuropathic pain that is characterized by a temporal relationship to a surgical procedure.3

Typically, people describe the pain as:
  • Burning
  • Pain
  • Cold
  • Electric shocks
That may be combined with feelings of:
  • Tingling
  • Pins and needles
  • Numbness
  • Itching

The PSNP Studies will be evaluating the effectiveness of an investigational patch in treating the symptoms of post-surgical nerve pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Clinical Research Study?

A Clinical Research Study (also called a clinical trial) is a medical study that helps answer important questions about an investigational drug or device, such as: does it work, or how effective is it compared to another drug/device?

All medications must be tested in clinical research studies before they can be approved by regulatory authorities for doctors to prescribe to patients. Without people taking part in these studies, we would have no new treatments. The volunteers who participate in clinical research studies play a major role in helping to advance medicine.

The PSNP Studies will include various visits to a study site in your area and follow up phone calls at designated times.

All study-related care is provided at no cost to you. You do not need health insurance to participate.

Volunteers who take part in the study may receive compensation for their time and travel.
Participation is entirely voluntary. Even if you decide to take part in this study, you can change your mind about participating at any time.

There is no cost to participate in the PSNP Studies. If you qualify, the investigational drug, study-related tests, assessments, and visits will be provided to you at no cost. You will receive study-related care throughout the study from a team of experienced doctors and nurses.

Volunteers who take part in the studies may be compensated for their time and travel. Please discuss this with the study team when they contact you.

What happens if I sign up? We will match you to a research study location in your area that needs volunteers with post-surgical nerve pain or notify you when one becomes available. The study team will then contact you and you may have the opportunity to participate if qualified.
